Summary scores on dashboards provide a quick overview of each initiative's performance. For more in-depth analysis, scorecards can also break down security control performance by business unit, data sources, geographical region, and so on.
This is valuable as it supports day-to-day decision-making by helping prioritize which areas of the business require attention and remediation.
The score breakdown heatmap
Cells are color coded according to Red/Amber/Green (RAG) threshold values, forming a heatmap in which you can quickly spot areas of weak or strong performance. This supports rapid diagnosis and a call to action for specific parts of your operation.
The heatmap is interactive and each cell, row, or column, can be selected to inspect metrics that contribute to the score in the Included metrics table.
Using scorecard breakdown heatmaps
The score breakdown heatmap is equipped with preconfigured columns and rows and is used as follows:
- Select a column or row: Click a column or row to segment the data. Values are generated automatically from included dashboards.
- Identify performance concerns: The RAG status highlights hotspots and successes, making it easy to spot performance outliers.
- Drill-down to contributing metrics: Click a row, column, or cell to get more detail on how the score is calculated by inspecting the corresponding metrics in Included metrics.
Metrics with absolute values are not used in the heatmap. Using raw values in a heatmap can be misleading when they are segmented, as the segmented value is tested by the same threshold as the total value. For instance, a total metric value of 1000 might exceed a threshold of 500, but when split among 20 regions, the threshold is no longer relevant because each region's share likely falls below it.
Included metrics
The Included metrics table provides an essential breakdown of all metrics from the dashboards that are selected in the breakdown table.
This allows you to quickly check the metric values and statuses influencing the dashboard score and therefore your overall security controls performance.
Metrics from selected dashboards
The table includes the following:
- Metric name: the Metric title from the Metric details.
- Dashboard: the metric's dashboard name.
- Thresholds: the threshold values that are used to derive the Red/Amber/Green status.
- Value: the current value of the metric that determines the Status.
- Status: the Pass or Fail status, where green and amber constitute a pass, and red constitutes a fail.
Viewing heatmap metrics in the Included metrics table
By default, the Included metrics table lists all metrics that contribute to the scores in a scorecard heatmap breakdown table.
The heatmap also lets you explore the data interactively in more detail by filtering metrics on breakdowns (such as Business Unit or Region), dashboard name, or any combination of the two.
By drilling down by dashboard, breakdown, or both, you can quickly discover metrics that are having the most impact on the score.
Click a table element to filter Included metrics
To filter the Included metrics table:
- Click on a row to see metrics for a breakdown value across all dashboards.
- Click column to see metrics for a dashboard.
- Click a cell to see metrics for a particular breakdown value for a single dashboard.
- Click on a selection or the Average column header to reselect the table and see all metrics.
Clicking a cell in the Average column selects a row.
By drilling-down you can quickly detect performance issues at the metric level and take appropriate action.
For example, if your heatmap is broken down by Region, you can select a row, say EMEA, and see the metrics for that region alone.

Focus on key data with customizable heatmaps
You can customize how scorecard dashboard scores are broken down into the heatmap. This allows you to focus on the rows and columns that matter most to you. Click the button in a scorecard and select Configure Heatmap to get started.
Changes made in the editor are applied globally for all users of this scorecard.
We've added some examples to get you started, but remember to separate each breakdown type with a comma and don't include spaces between entries.
