Panaseer includes filters on dashboards, metrics, and inventories to narrow down the information to a preferred subset. To start building a filter on a dashboard, metric, or inventory click the Filters button on the required page.
How to apply a dashboard filter
Creating a filter
Filters are used to drill down to the information you need using the Select Filters window, which is used by dashboards, metrics, and inventories.
Select a column on the left to populate the panel on the right, where you make selections to build your filter.
Choose columns to refine your data
You can filter any number of columns to focus your analysis. For example, you can filter a metric by Country, Business Unit, Device Type, and OS Type to reduce the number of records so that you can concentrate on remediation for a particular combination.
You can check your selections in isolation by clicking the Show selected tab.
To remove an individual filter, you can click the filter icon next to the filter column or you can click Clear all filters to remove all filters at once.
The Lock column checkbox adds a pre-supplied, locked filter to all metrics in a dashboard. See Adding locked filters to dashboards for more information.
Filter Types and tools
Filtering data helps you focus on trends and key details more effectively. Several filter types are available, depending on the page you're filtering:
- #: numerical filters, for example the Days since Last Vuln Scan and Versions Out Of Date filters. Specify a range, exact value, or minimum/maximum values.
- Abc: text value selection filters, for example the Installation Account and Application Name filters. Specify multiple entries from a list.
- Time and Date: timestamp and date filters, for example the Last Logon and Due Date filters. Specify a timestamp and range of dates or minimum/maximum values.
- MV: multivariable selection filters, for example the Business Unit and Employee Division filters. Specify multiple variables from a list.
- T|F: simple true or false Boolean filters, for example the Patchable and Has Admin Privilege filters. Specify Yes or No.
Click the Exclude selections checkbox to negate your selection. For example, in the image shown you can quickly switch between filtering by Device Type is Server to filtering by all Device Types except Server.
In the second metric, the Server device type is excluded
Working with null values
Null values often indicate incomplete information such as unassigned assets, missing compliance data, or tools that aren’t reporting correctly. Null values can help to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or omissions in your data.
Panaseer can classify null values using Business Logic to help with remediation. Please contact your CSM for more details.
To include results with empty values in a filter, select the Null values checkbox.
How to include null values in filters
Add values to a filter manually
In addition to value selection, you can add values manually using the Add values tab. This is useful if you have additional data in sources, such as a spreadsheet, that you want to crossmatch with the data ingested by Panaseer.
You can add values manually or from a file, in addition to those supplied by default.
To add filter values, click the Add values tab and either type your new values into the field manually or paste values from the clipboard. Whichever method you use, the format must be:
- A list of values on one line, separated by commas. For example:
Laptop,Desktop,Handheld- A list of values separated by new lines, with one value on each line. For example:
Laptop
Desktop
HandheldValues are case-sensitive and must not include header rows.
Adding locked filters to dashboards
Locking filters ensures that key data is always included by applying fixed filter values to all dashboard metrics. For example, if your dashboard is primarily focused on data from North America you can lock the Country filter column to United States and Canada.
To lock a filter value, click the Edit button in the top right corner of the dashboard and then click Add pre-applied dashboard filters.
Add locked filters to all metrics used by a dashboard
Select the required column and values and then click Lock column.

A padlock icon shows which filters are locked on the dashboard. Click OK to return to the dashboard.
See Checking active filters for details on viewing active filters.
Saving filters
You can save filter selections to a Dashboard View so that you can quickly swap between different views of your data.
Click Save changes to add your filters to a view. Enter a view name, such as Device by Location Filter, and click OK.
Click the Dashboard View button to access your saved views.
Apply saved filters in the Dashboard View
Checking active filters
You can see at a glance how many filters are active by the number in brackets on the Filters button.
To view which specific filters are active on a dashboard or inventory, click the Filters button to display the Select Filters window.
To view active filters on a metric, click a metric on the filtered dashboard to display detailed information including active filters.
