Check connector health with data ingest volume metrics

  • Updated

When raw data volumes change unexpectedly, it’s often impossible to tell whether the cause is a connector issue, a source change, or a normal variation in inputs. This lack of visibility makes early troubleshooting difficult.

Ingest volume insights in the Data Management Center (DMC) expose those trends immediately, giving you a way to confirm ingestion accuracy and maintain confidence in downstream results. These at-a-glance data trends empower you to detect anomalies, such as missing data or unexpected changes, so you're aware of potential issues that may affect your data pipeline.

Quickly check data ingestion health

All stages of the Panaseer data pipeline are controlled by the Data Management Center (DMC), including data sources or connectors as they're known in the Panaseer platform.

To access your connectors in Panaseer, click the DMC icon DMC icon in the left-hand menubar and then select Data sources.

You can find ingest volume insights in two areas of your DMC:

  • Installed connectors: Every installed connector card displays a bar chart summarizing daily volumes of raw data ingested from your security tools. Sudden drops or gaps could indicate issues that need investigation. Refer to Understanding the Charts for more details.

  • Connector Details page: Click a connector's Details button to see which raw data tables are affected. You’ll see problem tables listed first, no need to sift through the entire set. Refer to Which of my tables are affected? for more details.

Understanding the charts

Each connector’s data ingest graph provides a clear visual summary of how raw data is flowing into the platform over time. The bar chart shows daily record counts aggregated across all populated raw tables for that connector, helping you quickly spot trends or anomalies.

Use the time selector to view 7-, 14-, or 30-day ranges, with data moving left to right from oldest to most recent.

Color indicators make it easy to interpret connector health at a glance. These colors help highlight unusual patterns and may signal planned changes, maintenance, normal dips, or actual ingestion issues. Warning icons are displayed on connectors with issues or potential issues:

Display color Meaning Typical causes
Green bar Green bar Healthy – ingestion is within ±10% of mean
  • Normal daily variation
Amber bar Amber bar Potential issue – >10% deviation
  • Configuration change
  • Source system maintenance
  • Unexpected drop

Amber does not always indicate a fault. It highlights changes worth verifying. Contact your Panaseer representative for help with unexpected ingest variation with no known cause.

Red dotted line Red dotted line Critical – no ingested data where expected
  • Pipeline failure
  • Connector stopped
  • API change

Critical ingest failures for the specified day must be investigated immediately by your Panaseer representative.

Which of my tables are affected?

Clicking the Details button on a connector displays an aggregate of all raw tables ingested over time. If any data is incomplete or missing, the affected tables are listed automatically at the top of the dropdown with a Warning icon warning icon next to their names. Unaffected tables are listed last and don't require investigation.

The affected tables are r_wiz_io_device and r_wiz_io_vulnerabilities in the example shown.

The table list immediately identifies which tables contributed to a volume drop without searching through the entire list.

The Warning icon warning icons do not always indicate a fault, they highlight changes worth verifying. Contact your Panaseer representative for help with unexpected ingest variation with no known cause.

When should I check my connector health?

Your data ingest pipelines run automatically during scheduled downtime to collect and refresh data from connected sources.

Consistent monitoring is essential to maintain accurate metrics, dashboards, and AI-powered insights. If ingest volumes drop or data fails to update, downstream analytics can quickly become outdated or misleading.

Recommended frequency

  • Daily as part of health check process, ideally after the daily pipeline run completes.

  • Weekly as part of routine system checks to identify gradual trends in ingest volumes.

  • After changing connector settings or source system maintenance to ensure data continues to flow as expected.

  • When dashboard metrics appear unusual.

This schedule ensures that pipeline failures are detected promptly, data freshness is maintained, and analysts can trust that daily reports, trends, and metric changes are based on up-to-date information.

Frequently asked questions

Question Answer
What do the bar colors on the connector cards mean?

Green bar = healthy (±10% of mean)

Amber bar = potential issue (>10% deviation)

Red dotted line = no data where expected.

Can I change the time range? Yes. Use the selector to choose between 7, 14, or 30-day views. More granular control may be added in a future release.
Which way do graphs read? Left (oldest) to right (latest).
What does “no data available” mean? This message appears when the connector is newly installed or the feature was not enabled for that time range. It differs from the red indicator, which signals missing data.
How do I know which tables have issues? Click the connector dropdown to display all tables used by this connector. Affected tables appear at the top with warning icons.
Can I customize the 10% threshold? Not currently. Custom thresholds are planned for a future release.
How often do ingest charts update? Once per day after connector runs complete.
Where does the data come from? The charts display aggregated record counts across all populated raw tables ingested from security tools.
Can I export this data?

Not currently. Export functionality may be added in a future release.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do
I can't see any volume metric charts
  1. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac).
  2. Verify that you can access the DMC normally.
  3. Contact your Panaseer representative if the charts are still not visible.
The charts don't contain any data
  • If you see “no data available,” the connector is new or the feature was recently enabled and this is expected behavior. If data is still unavailable after the next pipeline run, please contact your Panaseer representative.

  • If you see a red dotted line, data was expected but is missing. Please contact your Panaseer representative.

  • Check that the connector was running within the selected time range (7, 14, or 30 days).

  • If other connectors in the same environment display data, but this one does not, confirm the connector's status.

  • If none of your connectors display data, please contact your Panaseer representative.

The data looks incorrect
  1. Verify the connector’s run history matches expectations.

  2. Compare data against your dashboard metrics.

  3. Contact your Panaseer representative with the connector name and a brief description of the issue.
