Adding metrics to a Dashboard

  • Updated

This article describes how to add metrics to your Dashboard Sections. If you aren't familiar with how to create a new Dashboard or edit an existing Dashboard, then we recommend you read Creating a Dashboard first.

Searching the Metrics Catalogue

Once you've created a new Dashboard, or selected one to edit, you will be presented with a catalogue of metrics on the left hand side of the screen containing the metrics that are available to add to your Dashboard. These have a title, description and additional attributes relating to the type of metric. The additional attributes can be viewed by selecting the show detailed results toggle. The attributes relate to keywords and framework alignment. You can use the search bar to return a subset of metrics you are interested in using. For example, if you wanted to find metrics related to vulnerabilities, you could type "vulnerability" into the search bar and click enter to focus only on metrics relating to vulnerabilities.

You can also use filters to more easily find the metrics you're looking for.

Click filters and you'll be able to narrow your search by security area, metric type, metric status and security framework.

Adding a metric

Once you've identified a metric you would like to add to your Dashboard, you can click and drag it across into the relevant Section in the Dashboard.

Adding a metric card

Once you have added a metric to the Section area, you can configure the metric as required.

Configuring a metric

Once you've added a metric to a Section in your Dashboard, you will be given some configuration options. To access the configuration menu, click anywhere on the metric title. To exit the configuration menu, click on the metric title again.

The following are areas that can be configured:

  • Custom Title: A default metric title is provided, however if you would like to add your own title, add this to the Custom Title field.
  • Add Breakdown Dimension: Where relevant, the metric can be broken down by available dimensions. This could be by business context (for example business unit) or by technical breakdown (for example OS type).
  • Visualization type: There are a number of different visualization types available to present your metric on the Dashboard. These are dependent on how many breakdown dimensions you've added. The types include numbers (with or without trends), charts, matrices and tables.

  • Inverse percentage values: Where relevant, you can choose to invert the percentage value of your metric. This enables you to either work to drive improvements to achieve 100% or to reduce issues to drive towards to 0%.  For example, you may have 20% of Devices missing from your vulnerability scan, inversely this value could be 80% of Devices being covered by your vulnerability scan.
  • Add Threshold: You can add a RAG threshold to your metric and configure the values they are set to.
  • Filters: You can add filters to your metric. For example, in case you want the metric to be focused only on a certain country.

  • Card size: At the bottom of the configuration menu you’ll find the option to adjust the size of the visualization (how big you want this metric to be displayed).full width card size option

Removing or cloning a metric

  • Removing a metric: If you want to remove a metric from a Dashboard, click on the  "X" at the right-hand side of the metric.
  • Cloning a metric: If you want to remove a metric from a Dashboard, click on the clone button at the right-hand side of the metric.
