A Watch lets you monitor a metric and receive an alert by email if it exceeds or falls below a chosen threshold, or changes by a given percentage. You can set the Watch to monitor daily or on certain days of the week.
You can create a Watch from any Dashboard metric that has no breakdowns. See Adding metrics to a Dashboard for more information about configuring the metrics that appear on Dashboards.
To create a Watch:
- Navigate to your chosen Dashboard.
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right-hand corner of your chosen metric card and choose 'Create Watch' from the menu dropdown.
-
You will see the "Setup a New Watch" pop-up. A Watch uses the filters applied to the Dashboard and metric at the time of creation. These are visible within the pop-up, but you are unable to change them from this interface.
- First, you must specify the trigger logic (under "Notify me when") that is used to decide whether to send a notification to the recipients of the Watch. The Panaseer platform supports two types of triggers:
Fixed value: You will be notified when the metric is greater than or less than your chosen threshold. (Options: Condition, Value)
Percentage change: You will be notified when the metric percentage change in a given direction exceeds your threshold. (Options: Condition, Value, Change duration)
- Next, set the Watch schedule to determine how often the metric is evaluated - every day or on specified days every week.
-
Finally, you can choose to share the Watch so that the trigger notifies other people or team mailboxes. Enter the email address(es) of your chosen recipients in the "Share" box.
To configure custom recipients for the Watch, the notifications.email.allowed-domains property must be set. Please get in touch with your CSM for more information.
Watch notification email
If one of your Watch triggers is evaluated to true, then you (or the custom recipients) will receive an email with its name, value, the date of an evaluation and a description of the trigger. Based on your configuration settings, the email can contain either a fixed link to Panaseer, or a link to a specific dashboard.
Please see Managing Watches for more information about how to view and edit your existing Watches.
