This article provides information about the Panaseer Inventory. It describes the types of inventories and the search interface that you can use to find and explore entities.
What is an Inventory?
The Panaseer platform collects data about various types of entities within your organization, which feed into the Panaseer Inventories, including devices, applications, people and vulnerabilities.
The inventory dashboards allow you to understand whats assets you have and how they are distributed across your estate, whether this be Device, People. Applications or one of the many asset types we support. These dashboards serve many purposes including:
- Insight into how organisation is structured
- Provide visibility of assets you might not have known you had
- Identify issues with how assets are classified
- Spot anomalies in the amount assets found
Where can I find the different inventories?
By selecting the button on the left-hand navigation bar, you are able to see all of the inventories within your environment.
Each inventory is associated to specific modules that your contract has required. If you do not see any information or a type of inventory, this may be due to your organization not using that particular module/inventory at the moment. Please contact your Customer Success Manager/Account executive to discuss adding a specific module/inventory into your environment.
What is Inventory Search?
As described above, Inventory search is the feature within the Panaseer application that enables you to find entities of interest. You can search across every type of Inventory defined within the Panaseer platform based on a range of shared attributes.
Please refer to Searching the Inventory for more information.
Once your search returns results, you can navigate to the related Entity Viewer to gather more context about your entity of interest. The Entity Viewer presents a unified view of the information we know about an individual entity, such as key identifier information, the data sources the entity is present in, and more.
Viewing Inventories
Inventories are accessible from the Panaseer Homepage or by selecting the icon and then selecting the Inventory you want to view from the left-hand navigation pane from anywhere in the platform. Inventories present information about each type of entity defined within the Panaseer platform. There are three views within the Inventories:
View All Inventories: A summary of all inventories in your Panaseer application, including the total number of entities of each type.
Device Inventory Overview: A summary view of all entities of this type. This filterable dashboard presents high-level metrics about the entity population.
Device Viewer: A unified view of the information we know about individual entities.
Entity Viewer Tabs
Each Entity Viewer has a Summary tab that gives you information about:
- Entity identifiers (e.g., DNS)
- Contextual information about the entity (e.g., Business Unit)
- Information about related entities (e.g., applications hosted by a Device entity)
A range of additional tabs exists for each Entity Viewer depending on the type of information that is relevant to display. For example, the Device Viewer has a Vulnerabilities tab that lists the vulnerability detections associated with the device and an Applications tab that lists the applications hosted by the device.
